I'm plowing ahead with menu-planning this year, and I've come up with too many things to make for 2 meals. I've been asked to contribute just one side dish and dessert, which is actually harder than just planning a whole meal because I want them to be THE BEST and there are so many great options to choose from:

Fresh off the success with vegetarian lettuce wraps and with half a log of tofu still left, I turned to an article and recipe I’ve been eyeing on Gilt Taste for months: “How To Make a Better Mapo Tofu“, by Ruth Reichl, one of my favorite authors. Gilt Taste appears to be defunct as they […]

image via the pioneer woman A few weeks ago, I woke up craving the fried tofu from a bowl of pho. Not the pho itself, but just the tofu – so I went up to the store and bought a block of extra-firm tofu at the grocery store. I did my research and learned how […]

On Friday evening, after a crazy beautiful day that I spent outside playing tourist in my own city, I returned home after getting my hair did and competed in the first annual “Building Bake Off” with my neighbors and some friends. I had initially planned to enter in two different baked goods, but in the […]

My mom had been eyeing the cake pop makers at Target throughout the holiday season, and by the time she decided that we absolutely had to have one, they were sold out. They were back on the shelves for the after-Christmas sales, so we picked up a Bella Cake Pop and Donut Hole Maker for […]

Faced with an entire refrigerator full of leftovers, I set about transforming them into new meals throughout the rest of the weekend. There is an absurd amount of food in our refrigerator right now. On Monday we hosted the EPIP Seattle steering committee for a potluck in which we made Spicy Dr. Pepper Shredded Pork Tacos and a fresh spinach and feta salad. The guests heeded my plea to bring something other than just wine or a dessert […]

I picked up a bag of Croxetti (pasta coins) at Eataly when I was in New York – not even the most unusual pasta in the pasta section but definitely the first to catch my eye. They are about the size of a silver dollar, with individual imprints on each one. The bag cost me […]

If you’re faced with the “problem” of having just a little bit of everything and a whole lot of corn in your refrigerator, do as I did and make your own “souped up” (get it?!) version of this corn chowder. Summer Corn Chowder with Bacon I discovered this recipe as part of my Iron Chef: […]

Sunday was the first in what I imagine will be a series of cooking showdowns between my roommate Heather and I. We hosted an “Iron Chef” competition (three dishes to make and three hours to cook) and were joined by a dozen of our friends who were eager to judge. We solicited suggestions for the […]
